Bomb explodes in Cairo

Cairo: A small bomb exploded in a southwestern suburb of Cairo on Sunday, seriously injuring the man who was carrying it, police sources said.
The explosion from a primitive nail bomb took place at the entrance to the man's apartment building, police said.

Police identified the bomber as Sami Gamal Ahmed, 33, who works at Qasr El Ainy hospital in central Cairo.

Ahmed was in critical condition in hospital with many nails embedded in his body. There were no other casualties and little damage to the building, the sources said.

There was no known link with the three blasts that killed up to 88 people in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm Al Sheikh on Saturday, they added.

The sources, who asked not to be named, said the man was carrying the bomb as he was entering the building when it exploded.

In April, a small Islamist group carried out two bombings in Cairo, apparently aimed at tourists. The bombers died.
