yes there is a huge difference

The old testament for us as Christians is a promise not fulfilled. People were dealing with God as a stranger not a savior
it is a testament of laws without a savior

the prophets of the old testament predicted and told of that difference

that the Lord is hidden and veiled in OT

Isa 59:2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

But, He is not going to stay the same way for the New testament

Eze 39:28 Then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land. I will leave none of them remaining among the nations anymore.
Eze 39:29 And I will not hide my face anymore from them, when I pour out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD."

Isa 45:15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.

Muhammad actually got it backwards
he started peaceful, because of his Christian background and ended violent to a larger scale than the OT, but even without the moral background of the OT.
